How to run a Super Bowl squares pool
- Pick the grid size. 100 squares for a big office pool. With fewer people, print 50 or 25 squares so every square still sells and each one covers more numbers.
- Sell the squares. Set a price per square and let players write their names in the squares they want.
- Draw the numbers after the grid fills. Draw 0 to 9 at random across the top and again down the side, in front of everyone, so nobody knows their numbers when they buy.
- Pay each quarter. Take the last digit of each team's score at the end of the quarter. The square where they meet wins.
Payout splits
Even split
25% / 25% / 25% / 25%
Every quarter pays the same. Simple, and nobody's square goes dead early.
Final pays most
20% / 20% / 20% / 40%
The common choice for the Super Bowl: the last score of the night is the big one.
Halftime and final
0% / 50% / 0% / 50%
Two payouts, for a pool that wants fewer, bigger winners.
Splits are Q1 / halftime / Q3 / final. With 100 squares at $10 each, the 20/20/20/40 split pays $200, $200, $200 and $400.
The squares that hit most
Super Bowls alone are too few games to rank 100 squares, so these are every completed NFL game from 2012 to 2025, playoffs included. They read home team's digit first; on this grid that is NFC, across the top, since the NFC champion is the designated home team this year.
| Payout | Most common squares (NFC-AFC) |

Stop drawing numbers out of a hat.
In classic squares, luck decides who gets 0 and 7. In Auction Squares on BettorEdge, players bid on the squares they want until bidding closes, so the best numbers go to whoever values them most, and squares can still change hands once the game starts.
Super Bowl squares FAQ
When is Super Bowl LXI?
Super Bowl LXI kicks off Sun, Feb 14, 6:30 PM ET at SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California.
How do Super Bowl squares work?
Players buy squares on a 10x10 grid. When the grid is full, the numbers 0 to 9 are drawn at random across the top for one team and down the side for the other. At the end of each quarter, the square where the last digit of each team's score meets wins that quarter's payout.
What if my pool does not have 100 people?
Print a smaller grid. The 50-square grid has 10 columns and 5 rows, so each row holds two of one team's numbers. The 25-square grid is 5 by 5, with two numbers each way, so each square covers four score combinations.
How should Super Bowl squares pay out?
Most pools pay all four quarters. An even 25% split is the simplest; many Super Bowl pools weight the final, at 20% for each of the first three quarters and 40% for the final. Agree on it before the numbers are drawn.
What are the best numbers for Super Bowl squares?
Across 3,835 completed NFL games (2012-2025, playoffs included), the most common final square has been 7-0 (home team's digit first) at 3.5%. 0, 3, 4 and 7 come up most because football scores move in 3s and 7s.
Do overtime points count?
In most pools the final includes overtime. Settle it in your pool's rules before kickoff.
