NBA Player Props Explained: Points, Rebounds, Assists and PRA Lines

By ·October 20, 2026 · 6 min read

An NBA player prop is an over or under bet on one player's box score number, and the core lines are points, rebounds and assists, plus combo props like PRA that add those three together into a single total. The game result does not settle it. A guard can score 31 in a loss and the over on his points line still cashes.

What an NBA player prop actually asks

Instead of asking who wins or how many points both teams combine for, the market posts a player, a stat and a number, then prices both sides.

Props settle on the official box score, and that includes overtime, the same rule covered in whether NBA bets include overtime. Most lines carry a half point, such as 24.5 points, so the bet cannot push.

The single stat props

Points is the headline market. It counts every made field goal and free throw, so a scorer who gets to the line can clear it on a cold shooting night.

Rebounds counts offensive and defensive boards together. It belongs mostly to bigs, and it moves with the opponent: a team that misses a lot of shots creates more rebounds for everyone.

Assists belongs mostly to point guards and primary ball handlers. It depends on teammates making shots, so it can swing more from game to game than scoring does.

Most boards also post three pointers made, steals, blocks and turnovers, plus yes or no markets on a double double or triple double. First basket markets are their own category and sit outside this guide.

Combo props: PRA and its cousins

PRA stands for points, rebounds and assists, and a PRA prop adds all three into one number. A player who finishes with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists posts a PRA of 38. If the line was 37.5, the over cashes.

The same idea comes in smaller pieces: points plus rebounds, points plus assists, and rebounds plus assists. Some boards also post steals plus blocks. Each is a single over or under on one number, not a parlay, so no category has to hit on its own. A short scoring night can be covered by extra rebounds, which is the appeal: a combo leans less on any single stat.

Minutes drive every number

Every NBA prop is really a minutes projection multiplied by a rate. Points, rebounds and assists all pile up while a player is on the floor and stop the moment he sits, so the first question for any line is how long he plays. That number moves with blowouts, foul trouble, back to backs and which teammates are available.

Say a forward produces 0.70 points, 0.25 rebounds and 0.20 assists per minute. That is 1.15 PRA per minute. Project him for 34 minutes and the math gives 23.8 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists, a PRA of 39.1, which sits just above a line of 38.5. Nothing about his talent changes when the projection drops to 30 minutes, but the PRA falls to 34.5 and the same line becomes an under.

Four minutes of playing time is the whole difference between an under and an over. The rates never moved.

That is why injury news moves prop lines so fast: a teammate ruled out frees up minutes and shots, and a lopsided spread raises the chance the starters sit the fourth quarter. Then convert the price: at -110 you need to win 52.4% of the time to break even, and the implied probability calculator does that conversion for any price.

What happens if a player does not play

The standard rule is simple: if the player never takes the court, the prop is voided and your stake comes back, whether you bet the over or the under. Once he checks in, even for a single minute, the bet usually has action and settles on whatever he recorded.

A player who rolls an ankle four minutes into the first quarter and never returns has played, so an over on his points normally loses rather than voids. Some platforms run early injury refund promotions, and after Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles in the first quarter of Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals, several operators refunded losing bets on him, but those were decisions made case by case, not the default rule. In a parlay, a voided prop usually drops out and the rest pays at reduced odds. Read the house rule on any market before betting a player listed as questionable.

Where props fit in an NBA game plan

Props tend to post later in the day, once injury reports firm up. The NBA odds hub carries the current board for every game, and the pillar guide to NBA betting strategy covers how possessions and minutes feed every market on it.

The short version

Points, rebounds and assists are the core lines, and PRA adds the three into one total that is still a single bet. Every line is a minutes projection times a rate, so playing time moves the number more than form does. If the player never takes the court the bet voids, and if he plays even a minute it usually stands.

NBA player props FAQ

What is PRA in betting?

PRA in betting stands for points, rebounds and assists, a combo prop that adds a player's three totals together and asks whether the sum finishes over or under one posted number. A line of 37.5 is cleared by 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, because those add up to 38. It is a single bet, so no individual category has to hit on its own.

What happens to a prop bet if the player does not play?

A prop bet on a player who never takes the court is normally voided and the stake returned, whether you took the over or the under. If the player checks in for any amount of time, the bet usually stands and settles on his actual stats, so an early injury exit typically leaves an over as a loss. House rules vary, and some platforms run early injury refund promotions, so read the market rule before betting a questionable player.

What are NBA combo props?

NBA combo props are player props that add two or more stats into one number, such as points plus rebounds plus assists (PRA), points plus rebounds, points plus assists, or rebounds plus assists. You bet whether the combined total finishes over or under the line, and it settles as one bet on the sum. Because production in one category can make up for a shortfall in another, a combo depends less on any single stat than a straight points or rebounds line does.
