These are estimates from the sport's margin spread, not exact conversions. Books shade the two numbers against each other, so a real spread and moneyline rarely match to the decimal. Use it to sanity-check whether a line is priced roughly where it should be.

A point spread and a moneyline are two ways of pricing the same thing. Pick a sport, enter a spread, and the calculator shows the win probability it implies and the fair moneyline for both sides. Flip the direction to turn a moneyline back into a spread.

How the Spread to Moneyline Calculator works

01

How a spread becomes a moneyline

A closing spread is the market's estimate of the average margin, and real results scatter around it in a roughly normal spread. Feed the spread and the sport's typical margin spread into that distribution and you get the favorite's win probability, which converts straight to a fair moneyline. A 7-point NFL favorite wins about 70% of the time, roughly a -230 moneyline.

02

Moneyline back to a spread

Run it backward and a moneyline becomes a spread. Convert the moneyline to an implied win probability, then ask how many points, given the sport's scoring spread, produce that probability. A -160 favorite is winning about 62% of the time, which in the NFL is a spread near four points.

03

Why sport matters

The same spread means different things in different sports because scoring volatility differs. A 5-point favorite is far safer in the low-variance NBA than in college football, where blowouts and upsets are both common. That is why the calculator asks for the sport: it changes the margin spread used in the conversion.

04

Only spread-scoring sports

This tool covers football and basketball, where final margins are close to normal. It deliberately skips baseball, hockey, and soccer: their low-scoring, lumpy margins break the normal approximation, so a spread-to-moneyline conversion there would mislead. For soccer, use a scoreline model instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert a point spread to a moneyline?+

Turn the spread into a win probability using the sport's margin distribution, then convert that probability to American odds. For example, a 7-point NFL favorite wins about 70% of the time, roughly a -230 moneyline. The calculator does it by sport.

What is a 3-point favorite on the moneyline?+

In the NFL, a 3-point favorite wins about 58% to 60% of the time, which is roughly a -140 to -150 moneyline. Enter the spread above for the exact number by sport.

Can you convert a moneyline back to a spread?+

Yes. Switch the direction above, enter the moneyline, and the tool converts it to an implied win probability and the equivalent point spread for that sport.

Is this spread to moneyline calculator free?+

Yes, free and no signup. It is an estimate from each sport's scoring spread, not an exact conversion, since books shade the two numbers against each other.
