LSU and Ole Miss first played on December 3, 1894, but went more than a century without a trophy.
Student leaders at both schools ran a 'Name that Rivalry' campaign, and both student senates voted for 'Magnolia Bowl' because the magnolia is the state flower of both Louisiana and Mississippi.
LSU senior sculpture major Evan Trapp carved the first trophy in wood, with carved leaves holding a bronze-cast magnolia. A Charleston, S.C., firm called Cultigraphic Creative designed the logo with input from Ole Miss students.
Ole Miss won the first trophy game, 31-13 in Baton Rouge on November 22, 2008.
In early 2014, Ole Miss's Associated Student Body and LSU's Student Government agreed on a redesign. Will Hopkins, owner of The Green Door Company in Oxford, was hired to build it, with the handoff planned for Ole Miss's Grove Bowl spring-game weekend that April.
