What Saturday actually decides

The WNBA plays 44 games in 2026, and Minnesota has 12 of them left while Las Vegas has 13. Two and a half games separate them, and two of those remaining games are against each other: this one, and then August 15 back in Las Vegas. That is the whole seeding race compressed into eight days. If Las Vegas wins both, the gap is half a game with a month to play and the top seed is genuinely open. If Minnesota wins both, it is over, and the Lynx spend the postseason at home.

Nothing else on either schedule carries that weight. Minnesota's remaining opponents include Portland, Golden State twice, Washington and Atlanta. Las Vegas has its own version of the same. Those games decide records. These two decide the order.

Minnesota, and the odd shape of a 25-7 team

The Lynx won ten straight between mid July and August 2, the franchise's first ten game winning streak since 2016, and closed it out by beating Indiana 108-100 at Target Center. Then on Thursday they lost at home to the Los Angeles Sparks, 89-82, after leading by 11 in the first half. Los Angeles outscored them 49-34 after the break.

That loss matters less as a result than as a reminder of something buried in the record. Minnesota is 13-2 on the road and 12-5 at home. The best team in the league is measurably better away from Target Center, which is not how home court usually works and is worth holding onto when you look at a home price on Saturday.

The engine is a rookie. Olivia Miles, the second overall pick out of Notre Dame and TCU, is averaging 19.8 points, 5.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds on 50.2% shooting, 38.6% from three and 87.8% from the line. She is the ninth rookie in league history named an All-Star starter and the clear Rookie of the Year favorite. Against Indiana on August 2 she put up 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting while Courtney Williams added 27, the two guards combining for 55 of Minnesota's 108.

Napheesa Collier is the other variable. She had surgery on her right ankle in January and her left in late March, missed the first ten weeks of the season, and returned July 22 at Seattle with 24 points and 10 rebounds in an 86-76 win. Five games back she is at 18.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists on 48.7% shooting, and Minnesota is 4-1 in those five. The relevant point for Saturday is that this is a different roster than the one Las Vegas beat in June, because in June she was not on it.

Around them, Kayla McBride is at 17.7 points a game, Natasha Howard at 15.3 and 7.7 rebounds on 58.2% shooting, and Williams at 15.2 with 4.1 assists. That is five players between 15 and 20 points, which is a different problem to solve than one star and a supporting cast.

Las Vegas, and a team that keeps surviving

The Aces are the defending champions and they score 91.8 points a game on 49.2% shooting. A'ja Wilson leads the league at 26.6 points, adds 9.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, and shoots 53.0% from the field. She has won four MVP awards. There is no version of this preview where she is not the best player on the floor on paper.

What Las Vegas has been doing lately is stranger than that. On Thursday they trailed Indiana by 20 in the first half and won 86-84 in overtime, with Chelsea Gray hitting a buzzer beating three to force the extra period and another buzzer beating three to win it. Wilson had 26 points, 13 rebounds and the defensive stop that set up the winner. Jackie Young scored 22, including a franchise record 15 straight Las Vegas points spanning halftime. Three days earlier Young had a triple double, 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, in a 109-87 win over Atlanta.

Young at 18.0 points and 6.8 assists and Gray at 12.7 points and 7.2 assists give Las Vegas two initiators, which is the specific thing that travels well against a good defense. NaLyssa Smith adds 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds on 65.7% shooting. The soft spot is Jewell Loyd at 8.1 points on 36.4% shooting, a long way from what that name has historically meant.

The honest caution on the recent run: a team that comes back from 20 down and wins on two buzzer beaters had a very good night, not necessarily a repeatable one. Las Vegas also lost 84-83 at Chicago on August 1. Both of those are one possession outcomes, and one possession outcomes are the least predictive thing in a résumé.

Head to head

They have played once in 2026. Las Vegas won 100-97 on June 13 at Michelob Ultra Arena in front of 10,330, a Commissioner's Cup game, with Minnesota sitting at 10-3 afterward. Collier did not play in it. Saturday is meeting two of three, and the third is August 15 in Las Vegas.

A three point game two months ago between two teams that have both changed since is a data point, not a trend. It is worth knowing that Las Vegas has already proven it can win this matchup, and worth knowing that it did so against a Minnesota team missing its best forward.

The community odds

On the BettorEdge community board, Minnesota is -203 and Las Vegas is +178. Those imply 67.0% and 36.0%.

SideCommunity priceImplied win probability
Minnesota Lynx-20367.0%
Las Vegas Aces+17836.0%

Add those two and you get 103.0%. An hour earlier the same two sides summed to 101.9%. A standard house market posting both sides at -110 sums to 104.8% and stays there, because that 4.8% above 100 is what the house keeps no matter who wins. Here the margin is smaller and it wanders, which is what a price assembled from a handful of independent quotes does rather than one set by a party who needs the number to hold. Community prices move, so check the live board before you act on any snapshot.

One caveat you should have, in plain terms

Three partners are quoting this game. On a Saturday MLB board we routinely see six or seven. Three is thin, and thin is worth saying out loud rather than burying.

Thin does not mean wrong. All three currently agree inside about a point and a half of implied probability, which is the kind of consensus that usually means the number is roughly right. But a thin board moves further on less, and it is slower to correct. Thursday evening, with both teams in action elsewhere, all three had Minnesota up near 77%, or about -335. By 11:00 PM ET the same three were back near 65%. We are not going to tell you what caused a three hour excursion of that size, because we do not know. We will say that an early number on a board with three quotes is not the same object as a settled one, and that it has moved between -191 and -205 across Friday alone.

The case on each side of the board

Minnesota at -203

For: They have the best record in the league, five players scoring between 15 and 20 a game, and Collier back to give them a frontcourt answer they did not have in June. A -203 price asks them to win about two thirds of the time, and a 25-7 team at home against a team it is 2.5 games clear of is a reasonable place to ask that.

Against: They are worse at home than on the road, 12-5 against 13-2, and they just lost at Target Center to a sub-.500 team after leading by 11. Laying nearly two to one on a team that dropped its last home game to Los Angeles requires you to treat Thursday as noise. Sometimes it is. Sometimes a team that just had a ten game streak snapped is tired in a way the record does not show.

Las Vegas at +178

For: They have the best player in the game, they already beat this team once this season, and they did it in a three point game. +178 pays if they win a little over a third of the time, and a defending champion with A'ja Wilson at 26.6 a night is not a one in three team against anybody. They also have two real playmakers in Young and Gray, which is how you attack a good defense on the road.

Against: They are playing a 1:00 PM ET tip in Minneapolis the second game after an overtime game, and their last two wins came by two points and on a pair of buzzer beaters. Wilson is the best player on the floor, but Minnesota can put three different bodies on her and still have five scorers at the other end. The June win came against a Minnesota team without Collier, which is not the team they are playing Saturday.

Aces vs Lynx FAQ

When is Aces vs Lynx and what channel is it on?
The Las Vegas Aces play the Minnesota Lynx on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 1:00 PM ET at Target Center in Minneapolis, carried nationally on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. It is the early game on a Saturday WNBA slate.

What are the odds for Aces vs Lynx?
The BettorEdge community board has Minnesota at -203 and Las Vegas at +178, a consensus drawn from three independent quoting partners. Those two prices sum to 103.0%, against 104.8% for a standard house market pricing both sides at -110, and the community number moved about a point of implied probability across Friday. Community prices move, so check the live board before acting on any snapshot.

Who won the last Lynx vs Aces game?
Las Vegas won the only previous 2026 meeting 100-97 on June 13 at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, a Commissioner's Cup game played in front of 10,330. Napheesa Collier did not play in that game, which is the main reason it reads differently now. Saturday is the second of three meetings, with the third on August 15 in Las Vegas.

Is Napheesa Collier back for the Lynx?
Yes, Napheesa Collier has returned and has played Minnesota's last five games, including Thursday's home loss to the Sparks. She had surgery on her right ankle in January and her left ankle in late March, missed the first ten weeks of the season, and made her 2026 debut on July 22 at Seattle with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Across those five games she is averaging 18.8 points and 7.4 rebounds and Minnesota is 4-1.

What is at stake in Lynx vs Aces on August 8?
The top seed and home court through the postseason are at stake, with Minnesota at 25-7 and Las Vegas at 22-9, two and a half games apart. Minnesota has 12 games left and Las Vegas has 13 in a 44 game season, and two of them are against each other inside eight days. Winning both would put Las Vegas half a game back with a month to play.

Why are only three partners quoting this game?
Three quoting partners is normal for a WNBA game and thin compared with a marquee MLB or NFL board, which often draws six or seven. Fewer quotes means the consensus rests on a smaller sample, so the price can move further on less news and can take longer to settle. All three currently agree inside about a point and a half of implied probability, which is a reasonable sign the number is close to right.
