What an MVP future settles on
The award is the NBA Most Valuable Player, voted by a panel of 100 media members on the regular season only. Each voter ranks five players, scored 10, 7, 5, 3 and 1. Playoff games do not count, because ballots are due when the regular season ends.
The 65-game rule
Under the current labor deal a player must appear in at least 65 games to be eligible for MVP and the other major awards, with narrow exceptions. That makes availability part of the price: a front-runner who misses a month can fall below the line and be out of the race no matter how well he plays.
Key dates
The 2026-27 regular season runs from October to mid-April. Ballots go in when it ends, the finalists are announced in April, and the winner is named during the playoffs, usually in May.
Reading the implied chance
+300 means the market gives a player about a 25% chance; +1500 about 6%. A full MVP board adds up to well over 100%, and the excess is margin that sits mostly in the long prices. Team record moves these prices as much as box scores do, since voters favor stars on winning teams.
