What an MVP future settles on

The market grades against the Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award, voted by a panel of 50 national media members. Ballots are cast at the end of the regular season, so playoff games do not count. Since the 2022 season each voter ranks five players, scored 10, 5, 3, 2 and 1, which lets a candidate who is second on many ballots build a real total.

Key dates

The 2026 regular season runs from September into early January, and that is the whole evidence window. Ballots go in before the playoffs, the result stays sealed through January, and the winner is announced at NFL Honors during Super Bowl week.

Why the board is mostly quarterbacks

No player other than a quarterback has won the award since Adrian Peterson in 2012, so the short prices on any MVP board belong to quarterbacks. Team record matters nearly as much as individual numbers, because voters lean toward players on teams that win a lot of games, and a multi-week injury usually ends a candidacy rather than just slowing it.

Reading the implied chance

+400 means the market gives a player about a 20% chance; +2000 about 5%. Add every candidate's implied chance and the total runs well over 100%, because a 30-name field has 30 places to carry margin. Convert each price before you compare them, and remember most of that extra sits in the long prices.
