What changed for Virginia Tech in 2026
- New head coach in James Franklin (Penn State Head Coach)
- New offensive coordinator in Ty Howle (Penn State Co-Offensive Coordinator and TE Coach) and new defensive coordinator in Brent Pry (Virginia Tech Head Coach)
- Starting QB from last season is gone. Penn State transfer Ethan Grunkenmeyer is expected to start (1,339 yards, 8 TDs, 4 INTs)
- Marcellous Hawkins returns at RB after a 2025 season of 749 yards and 1 TD. Louisiana transfer Bill Davis is expected to get some carries as well (767 yards, 6 TDs)
- Top player in terms of receiving yards from last season returns in Ayden Greene (516 yards, 3 TDs). Two transfers are expected to start in Louisiana Tech transfer Marlion Jackson (370 yards, 2 TDs) and Duke transfer Que’Sean Brown (846 yards, 5 TDs)
- Returning four starting offensive lineman that allowed 29 sacks last season (99th in CFB)
- Returning six starters on defense, with their top returner being safety Tyson Flowers (48 tackles). Four transfers are expected to start including UConn transfer CB Cam Chadwick Jr. (4 INTs)
